Privacy Policy (BookmarkLeaf Chrome Extension)

Effective date: 2025-08-11

1. Introduction

This Privacy Policy applies to the BookmarkLeaf Chrome extension ("the Extension"). We follow a data‑minimization approach to provide stable bookmark management without collecting unnecessary information.

2. Data We Collect and Process

  • Minimal local state: The Extension stores only the minimal state required to function reliably across MV3 Service Worker suspensions, such as isAuthenticated, userProfile, session, userContext, and lastSyncTime. Storage location: chrome.storage.local. Purpose: restore essential state for the popup and background after restarts.
  • Bookmarks access: The Extension uses Chrome’s Bookmarks API to read the bookmark tree for visualization and counts, and—only when the user explicitly acts—to update titles/URLs or delete items. We do not bulk‑export bookmark contents to third parties.

3. What We Do Not Collect

We do not read or collect: personal communications; website content from third‑party sites (page text/DOM/forms/cookies); browsing history; user activity signals (clicks, scrolls, keystrokes); health, financial, or precise location data; payment details. The Extension does not load or execute remote code (no external script URLs, no eval/new Function, no remote Wasm).

4. Permissions and Host Permissions

  • bookmarks: Required to read and manage the user’s bookmarks (core functionality).
  • storage: Required to persist minimal local state for stable operation across background restarts.
  • Content scripts and host permissions: Content scripts are injected only on our own domain (e.g., https://bookmarkleaf.com/*) to relay structured messages between the web dashboard and the Extension’s background. We do not inject on third‑party sites and do not collect page content.

5. Data Storage and Retention

Only minimal local state is stored. Data is cleared on logout or when you remove the Extension. Uninstalling the Extension clears its local data.

6. Data Sharing and Transfers

We do not sell or transfer user data to third parties. We do not use or transfer data for purposes unrelated to the Extension’s single purpose. We do not use or transfer data for creditworthiness or lending. Data may be disclosed if required by applicable law.

7. Security

We adhere to the principle of least privilege and request only necessary permissions. All executable code ships with the Extension package (no remote code), reducing the risk of runtime tampering.

8. Your Choices and Controls

You can disable or uninstall the Extension at any time. You can log out in the Extension to clear local state. You can review and manage permissions in chrome://extensions/.

9. Scope

This policy applies only to the BookmarkLeaf Chrome Extension. Your account/subscription/payment on our website (e.g., https://bookmarkleaf.com) is governed by the website’s privacy policy.

10. Children’s Privacy

The Extension is intended for general audiences and is not directed to children under 13.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy due to product or regulatory requirements. Material changes will be communicated via our store listing or website, and where required, we will obtain your consent.
